Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, DC Studios has decided to cancel Wonder Woman 3 in its current incarnation. The decision was made after director Patty Jenkins recently submitted a treatment that she co-wrote with Geoff Johns about their planned storyline for the film. However, DC Studios presidents James Gunn and Peter Safran and Warner Bros. Pictures chairpersons Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy informed Jenkins that her idea for the film does not fit their vision for their plans on the new DCU that they are building. It is unknown yet what plans Gunn and Safran have in store about the character in their DCU plan or whether Jenkins and Gadot will remain involved as the key creative players in the next incarnation of the project.
The report did note that the cancellation could save the studio a lot of money since Gadot was on track to receive a $20 million payday for the third film while Jenkins was going to receive $12 million with the possibility of backend bonuses for both of them. The day before the project’s cancellation, Gadot tweeted a thank you message to the fans to celebrate the anniversary of her casting as Wonder Woman and teased her next chapter as the character. It is still unknown whether the timing of the post is related to this. This news may disappoint a lot of fans who have been looking forward to Gadot’s next solo film as Wonder Woman and this sounds like the beginning of what’s next to come regarding the new DCU under the regime of Gunn and Safran. It would be interesting to see if Gadot will remain in the role which we should find out soon enough. Also Read: Black Adam’s Box Office Loss Disputed by New Report
