The official Netflix Japan Twitter account posted the first look at Jun Shison as Kurama in the Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series. In addition to the awesome image, the account shared Shison’s comments about being a part of the highly anticipated Netflix show. “We are fighting in every era and in any environment. For money, for our position, for our friends … There is a reason to fight each, and the direction should be different,” Shison said.
“However, in this work, we respect each other in different thoughts, and even though we sometimes collide, we are all fighting for something. The times have changed, but I feel that there are things that can resonate no matter what age you live in,” he concluded. Shison is certainly an interesting choice to play Kurama considering that the actor is known for taking on unconventional roles in his career. Shison had previously starred in the Japanese drama Life as a Girl where he plays a man who decides to pursue a career as a woman. With that in mind, we can’t wait to see him in action in Yu Yu Hakusho. It was previously announced that Takumi Kitamura will portray Yusuke Urameshi in the Netflix series. Yu Yu Hakusho is expected to announce the actors who will play Hiei and Kazuma Kuwabara tomorrow and on the following day. Stay tuned for more updates on this story. Yu Yu Hakusho will be directed by Sho Tsukikawa who previously worked with Takumi Kitamura on the live-action Let Me Eat Your Pancreas film. Tatsuro Mishima is writing the script while Ryo Sakaguchi serves as the VFX supervisor. The series will premiere on Netflix in December 2023.
